CLINICAL SKIN & BODY TREATMENTS

Coolglide  Vein  Therapy

Appointment Duration:  15 – 60 Minutes

Cutera® Coolglide Vein Therapy is the non-invasive approach to vein therapy. The Cutera Coolglide system uses Nd:yag 1064nm laser energy wavelength which causes the blood within the veins to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel, which is later absorbed by your body and removed by the lymphatic system.

What is a Cutera Coolglide?

Coolglide vein therapy is a minimally invasive laser treatment developed by Cutera® designed and manufactured in the USA.  Coolglide system uses the 1064nm laser energy wavelength with the patiented copper tip of the Nd:yag handpiece allows for pre and post shot cooling.

Coolglide can be used on the Face, Neck, Decolletege, Hands, Arms & Legs and is suitable for skin types 1-111 Fitzpatrick levels for both Male and Females.

What type of veins can be treated by Coolglide Therapy?

       • Up to 1 mm in diameter
       • Superficial, small veins; pink to purple in color
  • Reticular veins or “Feeder veins”

 The procedure

Your treatment will take approximately 15-60 minutes, depending on the areas you wish to treat. You will be given a pair of safety glasses which must remain on while undergoing treatment.  An ultrasound gel will be applied to the treatment area which assists in the gliding of the handpiece prior to a “shot” being performed.  A series of shots will be performed tracing the line of each vein.

As stated the treatment uses the Nd:yag laser with the copper tip to pre-cool the skin where the the vein is located then we fire a “shot” of light.  The pulse of light will selectively treat the target of hemoglobin (chromophore) within the vein without causing thermal damage to the surrounding tissue.  The laser light is absorbed by hemoglobin in the veins and the heat produced causes photocoagulation.  This heat is transferred to the vessel wall which affects the collagen and ultimately helps to destroy the vessel and prevent recanalization.

With each shot you will briefly feel a warm sensation and a slight sting (like a rubber band snap) as the light energy is absorbed by the target. This indicates that the treatment is working – in the case of tiny veins they literally disappear as soon as the shot is fired.

Coolglide treatments are predominately undertaken as part of a series of treatments to achieve improvements (some small veins may only require 1 treatment). Usually, 2 – 3 treatments, will be sufficient to see results, treatments are spaced at 2-3 months intervals.

Additional treatments may be recommended, and in some cases new veins may appear due to an underlying disorder.

It is crucial that you follow your aftercare instructions to ensure optimal healing and to achieve the best results following your treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sessions will I need?

Coolglide Vein Theraphy can be experienced as a single treatment, however, its full benefits are achieved if patients undergo a series of treatments as part of their skin plan. Typically, 2-3 treatments may be required to see desired results.

At Aesthete Sunshine Coast we offer package deals of x3 treatment visits at a reduced price for a one off payment.

How long will the results last?

Some small veins may only require 1 treatment and will be gone forever. However, usually 2 – 3 treatments will be required to see results.

Additional treatments may be recommended, and in some cases new veins may re-appear due to an underlying disorder.

Aesthete Sunshine Coast, we literally perform 100’s of these treatments. We only use world leading technoloigies and we are privileged to have highly skilled and trained clinicians who are passionate and committed to helping patients achieve their desired outcomes.  We love working closely with our patients to ensure we achieve great skin results.

Does a Coolglide Vein Therapy treatment hurt?

It doesn’t hurt but there is a warm sensation and a slight sting (like a rubber band snap) as the light energy is absorbed by the target. This indicates that the treatment is working. Adjustments can be made to ensure the treatment remains bearable.  Overall, the treatment is non-invasive with very little downtime.

When can I resume normal activities?

Patients may return to their daily activities immediately after their treatment.  You may have some redness and bruising.

However, we recommend that individuals refrain from any direct sun exposure for 24 – 48 hours. Ensure you wear a high-SPF 30 or 50+ broad spectrum sunscreen for the next few days following your treatment.  Avoid activities that cause excess heat and sweating like exercise or a sauna session. And avoid using skincare products that contain active ingredients for 3-4 days after treatment.

Risks and complications

Risks and complications are present in any cosmetic treatment patients choose to have, and patients need to understand these factors before going ahead with a treatment. Coolglide Vein Theraphy has very minimal risks or side effects associated with the treatment compared to other skin enhancement treatments. There may be some redness and bruising in the treatment area after your session. There are some contraindications for this treatment that, if met, may make some individuals ineligible for a Coolglide Vein Theraphy, or they may have to wait before undergoing the treatment. Ineligible individuals may identify with the following:

  • Pregnant
  • Open wounds
  • Recent sunburn
  • Active cold sores
  • Currently undergoing radiation treatment
  • Recently had injectables, waxing, or other laser treatments (will need to wait for one to two weeks)

The risks of unwanted side effects such as burning, blistering and subsequent scarring with loss of pigmentation, or hyperpigmenation are higher in darker skin types. Great care is taken to minimise these risks via a Fitzpatrick skin type Questionaire, and potentially a “test patch” (which may be required 3-7 days prior to the actual treatment)  to find the correct level energy for the individual patient.  Majority of patients will be able to proceed with treatment all on the same day.
