Anti Wrinkle Injections

appointment Duration: 45 Minutes

Anti-Wrinkle Injections are a nonsurgical, anti-aging procedure that can assist in reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles as well as leaving your skin looking refreshed and rejuvenated.

What are anti-wrinkle injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections, also known as muscle relaxers, are injectable cosmetic treatments designed to remove unwanted fine lines and wrinkles, preventing them from forming or reforming. Repetitive facial muscle movements such as smiling, frowning, squinting, and scrunching, can cause fine lines to settle in the face and remain there even when your face is resting. Natural ageing contributes to a tired and heavy appearance as skin loses elasticity and collagen production decreases over time. Anti-wrinkle treatment softens fine lines and wrinkles, tightens and lifts the targeted areas to rejuvenate and enhance your appearance. Anti-ageing injections are also an effective preventative treatment for individuals who have not experienced advanced ageing and wish to avoid the formation of future skin concerns.

Wrinkle relaxers can effectively achieve the following:

  • Reduce facial lines and wrinkles around the mouth, nose, forehead, and eyes
  • Define the jawline
  • Slim facial contours
  • Correct facial asymmetry
  • Tighten the neck area to reduce sagging
  • Soften the appearance of chin dimpling
  • Reduce excess gum exposure when smiling (gummy smile)
  • Produce a less tired appearance
  • Stop chronic migraines
  • Stop excessive sweating

Procedure Wrinkle relaxers contain a dose of naturally purified proteins that are precisely injected into the specific treatment area and temporarily stops the muscle from contracting. The easing of muscle activity will smooth out the lines present in the area and help to prevent the further formation of frown lines and creases. Results of the anti-wrinkle injections will not be immediate and will take up to two weeks to reach maximum results. Patients should be aware that these cosmetic injectables are different to dermal fillers. Anti-ageing injections are not designed to fill fine lines and wrinkles immediately but to treat the problem at its cause, which is the constant natural muscle contractions. Wrinkle relaxers give these muscles a temporary rest, providing the lines and wrinkles time to dissipate and prevent them from reoccurring. Results of anti-ageing treatments are not permanent, lasting up to 3 months. They will wear off unless further recurring treatments are had, which is recommended for most patients who wish to keep their facial enhancements.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do anti-wrinkle injections last?

Results may last up to 4 months, but results do vary. Typically, with correct dosage, patients can experience results lasting anywhere between 12-16weeks. How fast your body metabolises the cosmetic injections and whether you receive multiple treatments will also influence how long the results last.

How long does the procedure take?

Wrinkle relaxers are the perfect ‘lunchtime’ treatment, with sessions lasting around 30 minutes, depending on the extent of the procedure.

Are anti-wrinkle injections safe?

The TGA first approved anti-wrinkle injections for medical use in 1999 and cosmetic use in 2002. The TGA is responsible for approving and regulating medications and medical devices. Extensive clinical testing and research have been conducted on cosmetic injections, including anti-ageing injections, and the TGA continues to monitor these injectables for any additional concerns. Although there will always be the potential for associated risks or complications to occur with any medical or cosmetic procedure, you can rest assured that so long as a trained medical physician administers the product, anti-wrinkle injections are relatively safe.

Do I have to be a certain age for wrinkle relaxers?

Patients must be at least over 18 to receive treatment. You do not have to be an individual with natural signs of ageing to be eligible for anti-wrinkle injections. The procedure can be beneficial in preventing the development of fine lines and wrinkles and, therefore, can be an excellent preventative measure for younger individuals who wish to delay the signs of ageing.

Are wrinkle relaxers and dermal fillers the same?

Anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers are often confused as being the same treatment. They are two separate treatments that work in different ways to combat fine lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity. Dermal fillers are ideal for individuals with volume and tissue loss in areas such as the temples, cheeks under eyes, jaw and lips. They fill the underlying skin with a gel containing natural or artificial substances to smooth out the skin and create volume to enhance facial contours. Dermal filler results are usually noticeable immediately after treatment. Wrinkle relaxers are suited to individuals with fine lines and wrinkles, or who wish to prevent such concerns from occurring. They are designed to block the nerves and muscles from contracting to allow the muscles to relax. Results are not usually seen immediately after treatment, as it takes time for the skin to eventually smooth out, tighten, and lift once the muscles have had enough time to relax fully.

Can anti-wrinkle injections be reversed?

Unlike dermal fillers, which can be dissolved, anti-wrinkle injections cannot be reversed. It will take time for the injections to absorb and the body to metabolise the protein over time, and patients must be aware of this before choosing this treatment. However, the results will fade over a period of weeks to months.
